Making a New Photo Look Old

Have you ever wanted to make a photo that you took look like it was old? If so, follow these steps and I will show how to turn a new photo, into an old looking one.
1. Open a picture that you would like to change
2. Click on the New Adjustment Layer button on the bottom of the Layers panel. ( The circle, half black and white)
3. Click on Hue/Saturation. Check the colorize box and set the hue to 40. Saturation will be 25.
4. Hold Alt, go up to Layers, Merge Visible
5. Rename Layer 1 to Glow
6. Filter, blur, Gaussian blur. Then, put 6.0 pixel's for the radius. Then push OK.
7. Go to Layer panel, where it says Normal, change it to Overlay. Change opacity to 70% or lower.
8. Hold Alt, push New Layer button on the Layer panel. (Next to garbage can) Name the new layer Edges.
9. Go up to Edit, Fill, and make sure to keep the color Black.Then push OK.
10. Now go to the Elliptical Marquee Tool. ( Might have to right click on the second tool down to use it) Start from the top left and drag to the bottom right. Make the circle as big as possible. Then hold Alt and push the Layer Mask button on the Layers panel. ( On the left side of the black and white circle)
11. Like in step 6, go to Filter, blur, Gaussian blur. This time, put the radius to 25 pixels. This softens the edges. Change the opacity to 35%.
12. Hold Alt and click the New Layer button. Name this new layer; Noise
13. Same as step 9.
14. Go up to filter, noise, add noise. Make the amount  around 130%. Make sure Gaussian and Monochromatic are selected.
15. Change Normal to Soft Light in the Layers panel.
16. Make the opacity lower
17. One more layer to make, hold Alt, New Layer button, name it Grain.
18. Go up to Edit, fill, then black.
19. Go to filter, textures, grain. Change the intensity to 70, contrast to 80, and grain type to vertical.
20. Change Normal to Screen in the Layers panel
21.Go to New Adjustment Layer ( black and white circle) on the Layers panel, then select levels.
22. When the Levels dialog box pops up, drag the black marker to 30 output level, and the white to 235. Click OK
23. Flatten image. Save as a JPEG
Then the picture should look like an old photo.

Advertisement

My logo is for Mercy's Venture Club. The purpose of advertisement is to get more people to join the group, and also to come skiing with the Venture Club. The audience that I made this advertisement for is Mercy girls, grades 9-12. The advertisement gives a specific date of when the activity will be. I went to a public domain website to find the picture of the skier. Then, I opened a new document, drug the picture over to my advertisement, and put it in the middle of the paper. Next, I went to download the snowflakes from Adobe Exchange and found some nice looking ones. I made sure that the colors went together well. The blue and gray represent the snow and sky, while the green stands out so that people will look at the writing. I put my logo on the lower right hand side, because people read from left to right, in a Z formation. I used the burn tool to make the color of the skier darker. I used the Text box tool for the information and title of the advertisement. I made sure that all of the font on the advertisement was the same so that it would not be distracting.

New Logo

When looking at this logo it shows an activity that you can participate in when joining the venture club. The logo is meant to make people want to join the club because they will see the picture and think it looks fun. There are many other activities to participate in, but the logo only shows skiing. The purpose of the logo is to try to get new members to join and have a good time.
I chose the colors baby blue and turquoise for my logo. I chose the color blue because it symbolizes trust, loyalty, wisdom, confidence, and intelligence. This is what every Mercy girl needs when she joins venture club. Confidence is needed to try new things and loyalty is to the people that go on the trips with you. I chose the greenish turquoise color because it represents nature. When you're on most of the activities in venture club, you will be in nature or at least see some nature. The color also symbolizes growth, harmony, and freshness. Venture club will help you grow as a person and come out of your shell.
In my logo I put a line under "Mercy Academy's" and also under "Join the fun!". I did this to emphasis whose club it is, and why the reader is even looking at the logo, to join the club. These two things are very important so that is why I put lines underneath them. I used balance in my logo. The capital V is on one side and the capital C is on the other. Both letters have a word underneath them going vertically. I left the background white so there is white space for my logo. The shape of my logo is a box and it lets the person looking at it focus on all of it. My logo is simple, yet gets the point across.

"Perfect Body Image" Photoshop

  I used Selena Gomez's picture to help Photoshop my face. I feel like the overall transformation of the picture makes me look way different. The 'New' me looks like a complete different person. There are a lot of things on my original picture of me that I had to change. I had to add make up and cover up blemishes that were on my face. I also made my nose smaller.
  I used to think that everyone in the magazines actually looked "perfect". I now know that this is not true, and how easy it is to make that "perfect body" to make someone look good. Some people in the magazines might not look anything like what they actually look like in person. I feel that ads in magazines are liars now because maybe their product, such as Proactive, does not actually help your skin as well as they say. The people that make Proactive probably Photoshop the pimples and zits off of the person's face to make their product look like it actually works really well.
  In our society, our image of the perfect body is deranged because we all think that we need to look like these girls in the magazines, when in fact, they do not even look like that. Girls are pressured into wanting to look like what magazines say as "pretty", but no one can look like this because it is all fake.
  One thing that I think I did pretty well is the placing of my face on hers. It was pretty easy to tell where the position of my face fit almost perfectly on hers. The other thing I feel like I did good on was editing my face before I put it on her face. This was when I cleared all my blemishes, put make up on my face, and whitened my teeth. I think that I could have spent more time on making my face blend more with hers. I did not use my eyebrows in the picture. I used her eyebrows.

A Day in the Life of a Mercy Student

 

For the past few weeks our class has been working on the Photoshop program. We learned many tools that are very helpful in making nice, clean photos. In this project, we were to make a collage that shows a day in the life of a Mercy student. In almost every photo, I used a tool to make the picture better. For example, in the picture at the top with my friend Abigail reading a book, I made the scar on her leg disappear. I did this by using the patch tool. I used her regular skin color around her scar to make it cover up her scar. Now it looks as if she never even had a scar. My other friend, Haley, I took her photo at the podium and also the picture of her at the board, I used the dodge tool on the pictures because they were a little too dark. The board picture, I turned down the opacity so see through her picture and kind of the picture behind it. In the picture with Haley at the water fountain, the picture started out really yellow. I went to color and balance and took out the yellow mid tones and put more blue into it. Then, I went to highlights and put more green and blue into it, to make a less yellow tint. I also used the burn tool on her back because the light made her back white. When I used the burn tool, it turned her shirt back to its actual color, yellow. Last but not least, the picture of Haley at the lockers. I brightened the picture and also made it have more contrast to make the picture look sharper. I also added a little cyan color to it.

Those are some of the elements that can be used in Photoshop. There are many more to use and they will help make better pictures. Photoshop is a good program to use for making collages or just to help make photos look crisp and professional.

Picture Elements

 This picture shows the motion element. My friend is riding on her bike down the hill. I left space in front of her to show that she will be moving towards that space.

 This picture is of my two cats. This picture shows balance because one of my cats is on one side of the picture, while the other cat is on the opposite side.

This picture shows the angle element. This first picture of my cat shows her whole body. The second picture at the bottom, shows only her face. I took the picture from above her, so she is looking up at me.

Creating a Piracy Podcast

In our podcast, we used a song at the beginning and the end.  We got the song we used from jingles off of garage band itself.  This is not copyright infringement because the website offered the song for us to use.  The picture we used on our podcast was of us, so there is no copyright infringement involved.  We used picnik.com to edit our photo.  We used Lady Gaga as a resource, and made her say some things on piracy that we felt that she would actually say if she was asked about it. Downloading music can be illegal if you do not do it the right way. If the song is on a public domain, and the artist approves of this, than it is not illegal. Another way that it is not illegal, is if you pay for the song and then download it. It can be wrong if you get the song off of a website like frostwire or any other website that allows you to download popular music for free. Those websites are illegal and you should not use them.
Copyright law should exist because if it did not, the artist of the material would not get what they deserve. Such as a music artist, they work hard on a song, but people start illegally downloading their for free, so they do not get paid the right amount of money for it. Or maybe an artist that draws. They might draw something, put it on the Internet, put a copyright on it, and next thing they know, their drawing is being taken by other people. Copyright law makes sure musicians and artists get the hard earned money they deserve.
Piracy is so prevalent in our society because it is so easy to do. Most of the time, the people associated with piracy don't get in trouble. They do not think it is a big deal, and they do not think about who they are affecting.

If someone used our podcast or picture, I think I would be kind of embarrassed and mad at the same time. The picture is of everyone in the group and the podcast is of us talking about piracy. I would feel as if someone had stolen something from me.

My Thoughts on Copyright

      I thought copyright was when you take things straight from the Internet and use them as your own work. In reality, copyright is a good thing. Copyright infringement is when you take things off the Internet that do not belong to you, and use it as your own. You cannot give a friend a CD that you burned some songs onto from iTunes. I also found it surprising that you cannot show a movie outside for all your neighbors or family to watch with you. There are many other rules to copyright infringement that I found very surprising.
      In this article I found, YouTube was being sued  $1 billion by Viacom. Viacom is a website that lets people watch television and clips of films on it.  Users on YouTube were posting videos found on Viacom for people to watch for free. Viacom tried to sue YouTube for this, but the judge was in favor for YouTube, so they did not get in trouble. If you want to read more about it here is a link: Viacom vs. YouTube .
       I do believe it was fair to let YouTube go without being sued because there are so many people that post videos on YouTube, it would be hard to find all the people leaking the videos for free. I think the punishment was going to be way to much money to have to pay Viacom. It is breaking the law because on Viacom, people had to pay to watch the videos, while on YouTube, people were watching it for free.

Technology Autobiography

     Technology is very important in our everyday lives.  It has always excited me to talk about computers or other technology.  Ever since I was in kindergarten I took a computer class.  It was always one of those classes that I liked more than the others. I would actually be pretty excited to go to computer class, and I always made good grades in it.  I feel that computers are always changing and getting better, just as all other technology.  It has been interesting to grow up and see the changes that have been made.  At first, the computer was huge.  Now, it has changed into a laptop touch screen and can be very thin.  Go here to see a picture of how laptops look now: Laptop
     Ever since I was little, I had the privilege to have a computer in my house.  Now, we have two laptops, a computer, and who can forget about cell phones.  Technology has become something that is commonly found in about every house.  I use this technology every single day. Almost everyone does as a matter of fact. Video games are also something I enjoy doing.  I use my laptop for homework.  All this technology makes my life an easier place to live.
     Technology has been changing and it will keep changing for the better.  Things will become even easier than before.  In the future, I see technology even being able to take us back in time, or instead of driving in cars, walk through something and end up where you want to be. Maybe I am going a little too far with the idea, but I like the sound of it.  Now that would be awesome.
